"Richmondville---James R. Van Voris died early Saturday morning, July 13, at the home of his son, Earl, on West Main street. He had been in poor health from a kidney ailment the past several years. He was taken suddenly very ill last Wednesday night but was not considered critical at first. He had always been a farmer and when he retired from the farm he continued to cultivate a large garden in the village and helped out his sons on their farms. He was born June 14, 1862 in the town of Fulton and was a son of Jonas P. and Melvina Simpkins, Van Voris. Funeral services were held from the home Monday afternoon with Rev. G. W. Swart, Methodist pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Cobleskill cemetery. Surviving are three sons, Earl and Milton of Richmondville, Edgar of Charlotteville, two brothers, John of Richmondville, Neil of Middleburgh, five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews."
