Mary was born to James and Mary Ann McBurney (nee Hughes) near Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland in Nov 1826. On March 8, 1848 she married Robert Peacock and had 2 children:
James Peacock/McBurney born June 4, 1849 in Ballymena, County Antrim Ireland (died 1922 in IA) married Elisabeth Lucas, Luella Wilson.
Margaret Peacock/McBurney born April 25, 1852 in Ballymena, County Antrim, Ireland (died 1904 in Missouri, buried in Kansas) married Charles Smith.
Robert Peacock died, and her 2 children were adopted by Mary's parents, which is why they have 2 names, and there are 2 James McBurney's.
Mary came to the US June 9, 1856 aboard the ship J R Keeler. On the 1860 census, she was working as a Domestic Servant in Canonsburg, Washington Co, PA., and her 2 children, under the name Peacock, were living with their grandparents in Pease, Belmont Co, OH a few miles away.
In 1860 she married William Whiteside and had 3 children:
Hugh A Whiteside born Oct 31, 1862 in PA (died 1917 in IA) married Henrietta Havelin.
Emma M Whiteside born about 1864 in PA (died 1881 in PA)
Anna E Whiteside born Oct 24 1865 in PA (died 1919 in IA) married James Ferris.
She and her husband were farmers in North Strabane Township, PA, living just South of Cannonsburg on a 200 acre farm.
They moved to Iowa in the spring of 1893, and were living in Spring Creek, Mahaska, Iowa in 1895.
Mary died Sept 21, 1905.
