George L. Newcomb 81, of Martinsville went to be with the Lord on January 5, 2017 at the Salem VA Medical center in Salem. He was born in Halifax Co, on June 23, 1935 the son of the late Luther Newcomb and the late Fannie Morris Newcomb. He was also preceded in death by a brother Luther Frank Newcomb, Jr. George was in the United States Air Force.
George is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Violet Barker Newcomb, two daughters and son – in – law Verlinda Anderson and husband Jimmy, Romona “Roni” Newcomb. Also, surviving two grandchildren, Thomas L. Wilson and wife April, Andrew Wilson and wife Christina. Three great grandchildren, Layla Wilson, Jessica Wilson and Andrew Wilson, Jr, one step great grandchild Brayden Gray. George is also survived by two brothers and sisters – in – law, Edward Newcomb and wife Gladys, Earl Newcomb and wife Faith, one sister and brother – in – law, Victoria Collie and husband Carroll and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 11 from 6-8 p.m. in the chapel of Bassett Funeral Service. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, January 12 at 1:00 p.m. at Landmark Baptist Church with Dr. J.D. Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park with full military honors conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard of Martinsville and Henry Co.
