Merrett was the youngest of six children (sisters: Melissa, Ellen A., Anna Mary, Esther C. & Mary Louise ) born to James E. & Ellen A. (Lynk) Pomeroy.
NOTE: Both his parents were born in New York state; they married there in 1862 & after living in Michigan, where Merrett was born, they moved to Hilo, Hawaii in 1898.

Merrett served as a Captain with the Army Corps of Civil Engineers during WW-I. He first married Clara T. Richards, with whom he had three daughters (Nan Eio, Patricia Ann & Barbara Joan). They ultimately divorced.

By 1940, Merrett was living in Arlington, Virginia & had second married Mary Helen Morse (nee Hamilton); it was her second marriage also. Merrett & Mary had no children together. Per Federal Census & other records, Merrett worked all his life as a civil engineer/architect.
