"Gerald Gillis, 79, passed away on January 23, 2017 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville, MS. He was a retired dairy farmer and member of Adaton Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He received the National Land Conservation Award in 1990.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chapman and Dorothy Gillis; brother, James Gillis; and sister, Margaret Jeffers.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Young Gillis of Starkville, MS; daughters, Bethany Gaudin (David) of Starkville, MS, Lisa Whisnant (Jeff) of Seneca, S.C., and Lori Elizabeth Gillis of Starkville, MS; sisters, Irene Chandler of Louisville, MS, Kathleen Holmes of Brookhaven, MS, Helen Stemmer of El Cajon, CA, and Sally McRorie of Charlotte, N.C.; brothers, Alton Gillis of Sturgis, MS, Algen Gillis of Starkville, MS, Rodger Gillis of Sturgis, MS, and Marion Gillis of Mathiston, MS; and six grandchildren, Amanda, Nathan, and Anna Beth Gaudin, and Evan, Jared, and Aubrey Whisnant.

Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Adaton Baptist Church in Starkville, MS, with the funeral service immediately following. Rev. Hal Selby will conduct the service. Burial will be in Adaton Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Adaton Baptist Church."
