Larry Eugene Whaley, 68, of Fort Payne, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the VA Hospital in Birmingham. Larry was born June 17, 1949 to Floyd and Annie Hurtt Whaley. He was a 1968 graduate of Collinsville High School and was a heating and cooling technician. Larry was a deacon and led music at Gravel Hill Baptist Church. He later was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Larry served during the Vietnam War with the United States Marine Corp.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Martha Johnston Whaley; children, Steve and Jenn Whaley and Sharon and Ralph Chatfield; mother, Annie Whaley; grandchildren, Amber Daniel (Jess), Shelby Whaley (Nick), Cody Daniel, Eric Whaley, Niklas Chatfield, and Lukas Chatfield; great-grandson, Parker Beam; sisters, Peggy Wilkie (Randal), Susan Simpson (Larry), Fonda Whaley, and Carla Gower (Mike). He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Whaley and grandson, Austin Chatfield.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Burke and Rev. David McCarrell officiating. Burial will follow in Walkers Chapel Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12 until 2 p.m.
