John Epperson is likely buried in an unmarked grave in Shiloh Cemetery between Leeton and Chilhowee. John Epperson, a Union sympathizer, was said to have been executed outside of his Johnson County home by guerilla force in the last year of the Civil War. An auction was held the following year to satisfy his debts. He was a farmer and a carpenter.
