H. A. Milot Succumbs To Apoplexy At Family Home On Knight Street

H. A. Milot, one of Helena's most well known old time residents, died yesterday morning at nine o'clock at the family residence on Knight Street of apoplexy. Having resided here for more than 30 years Mr. Milot leaves a host of friends that sincerely mourn his death.

Mr. Milot was born at Yamachiche, province of Quebec, Can., 73 years ago. He came to this state in 1861 from St. Joseph, Mo., and first settled at Deer Lodge where he was engaged in the cattle business. A year later he removed to Bannack where his entire stock was destroyed in a raid made by Indians. He then became a collector for numerous Bannack concerns. In 1863 he removed to Virginia City where he opened a saloon, but he soon sold out and returned again to Deer Lodge where he conducted a mercantile establishment until 1870. He then purchased a ranch in the Deer Lodge valley which he conducted until 1876 when he came to Helena.

Besides a wife he is survived by eight children.
