Myra Margaret (Dunmire) Filson, 96, passed away at her home and entered into eternal rest on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017. Born Dec. 15, 1920, in Mattawana, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd G. and Mary Elizabeth (Swigart) Dunmire. She married the late Tolbert D. Filson on June 6, 1942, who preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 1974. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: sisters and a brother: Mrs. (Guy) Catherine Stimley, Mrs. (Elrose) Francis Aumiller, and Robert Dunmire, and a son, Jon L. Filson, on Nov. 9, 2008.

She is survived by: daughter, Carolyn Ann Filson, of Baltimore; son, T. David Filson and wife, Deborah, of Lewistown; daughter-in-law, Mrs. (Jon) Bonnie L. Filson; grandchildren, Joseph Filson and wife, Julie, Emily Gahagan and husband, Christopher, all of Lewistown, Jessica Filson, of Richmond, Va., Rebecca Reeder and husband, Michael, of Lewistown, Amy Howard and husband, Benjamin, of Olney, Md.; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Filson, Caleb Filson, Hannah Filson, Seth Gahagan, Allison Gahagan, John Howard, Daniel Howard and Zachary Reeder.

Myra was a graduate of McVeytown-Oliver High School. She worked at the Clover Farm Store in Mattawana prior to her marriage. Later in life, she worked at the American Viscose, McMeens and the Bon-Ton. She retired from the Burnham Giant Food store bakery department.

She and her husband lived and farmed full-time in Vira where they reared their three children.

She was a lifetime member of the Burnham Church of the Brethren, where she and her husband “Tol” served in a variety of positions including: Deacon and Deaconess, Sunday school teacher, choir, Woman’s Fellowship and most recently, she served as church treasurer for 40 years. Her faith and love in Christ Jesus, her love for the church and her family were very important to her and were quite evident in her daily life. She was a living example of the love of Christ shown through serving others. She loved to babysit children of family members, help with preserving and canning produce and loved to provide many other areas of service to others. Myra found great joy in serving and caring for others including; her three children, all of her 13 grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Viewings will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, and from 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m., at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes Inc., 108 First Ave., Burnham, with Pastor George Yocum officiating. Interment will take place in Vira Methodist Cemetery, Lewistown.
