Peter Schmidt was born in 1888 in Auglaize County Ohio to Adam Schmidt and Anna Margaret (Werling) Schmidt. In August of 1909 he married Osa May Duddy and in the 1910 census he is farming in Shelby County Ohio. Osa's parents, William and Mary May Duddy, and 5 of her siblings left Ohio in 1910 to homestead near Kit Carson Colorado. Sometime before 1917 Peter and Osa also moved to Colorado. They are shown living both in Kit Carson and Deer Trail. Son Roy Marcellus was baptized in the Catholic faith in 1917 and shown to be living in Kit Carson. Peter's WWI draft registration in 1917 lists his home as Kit Carson and working for the Union Pacific Railroad. Daughter Lucy was born in Deer Trail in 1923. Peter's life was cut short in a tragic car accident in Colorado in 1925.
