Mary E. Csontos/Gontos was born in Trenton, New Jersey on May 17, 1904 to Hungarian immigrants, Mihaly (Michael) Csontos and Julia Barnoczky. She was their only child. Five days after her birth, Mary was baptized on May 22, 1904 at St. Stephen's Church in Trenton, New Jersey.
Mary was 15 when she married Joseph ("Joe") Louis Bohoney on 4/5/1920 in New Jersey. Joe and Mary made their home in Logan County, West Virginia around 1925.
They had 11 children, 5 sons and 6 daughters:
1. William Bohoney (1920-1989), Dayton, Ohio
2. Louis Bohoney (1921-1991), Toledo, Ohio
3. Joseph Bohoney, Jr. (1923-1943), died while serving in WWII
4. Ernest Bohoney (1925-1948), died in the coalmines
5. Eleanor M. (Bohoney) Weigand Mynes (1926-1990), married twice
6. Rudolph Robert Bohoney (1926-1926), died as an infant (Note: Death records indicate his name was Randolph, but his birth record states Rudolph.)
7. Virginia Mae (Bohoney) Petre (1928-2009), lived in Azusa, Chino and Hesperia, CA
8. Mary (Bohoney) Rogers (1930-2006), lived in Whittier and Hesperia, CA
9. Dorothy I. Bohoney (1933-1999), Huntington, WV
10. Rudolph "Rudy" Robert Bohoney (1937-2024), Toledo, OH (Note: Rudy was named after child #6 who died as an infant.)
11. Elizabeth ("Betty") Julia (Bohoney) Wolford (1938-2007), Toledo, OH
Unfortunately, Joe and Mary's marriage ended in divorce due to his issues with alcohol. Mary moved to Toledo, Ohio around 1944 with her young children, Dorothy, Rudy and Betty.
According to her death certificate, Mary's usual occupation was kitchen worker. Mary died on Nov. 30, 1962 at home in Toledo, Ohio at the age of 58. She suffered from heart problems and died in her sleep while sitting in her favorite chair.
