He served as a coach in little league baseball and basketball and was a member of Smyrna First United Methodist Church. An avid gardener, his garden was on the Cobb County Master Gardeners annual garden tour of which he was a lifetime member. His garden was also on the Georgia Native Plant Society garden tour, and he served as President. He was also a member of the Georgia Perennial Plant Society, going on their garden tours to Scotland and Italy.
Preceding him in death were father and mother Lorell and Edna Earl DeVane of Cuthbert, GA. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Shirley Woolbright DeVane; sons Harvey (Eve) and Brad (Lisa) and his beloved grandchildren Greyson, Julia and Olivia, all of Marietta; and sister Winona Johnson (Don) of Cuthbert, GA.
Funeral service was held at Carmichael Funeral Home, 1130 Whitlock Ave., Marietta, GA with reception following. Interment was at Kennesaw Memorial Park, 1306 Whitlock Avenue, Marietta, GA.
