Born January 1, 1940, and raised in Johnstown, New York, he was the son of the late Lucille and Lloyd Yates Olmstead of Johnstown.
Robert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lucinda (Pellegrino) Olmstead; two daughters, Kimberly Woloszyn (Ted) and grandson Daniel Woloszyn of Glenville, Kelly Masline (Jeff), granddaughters Emily and Allison Masline of Albany; one sister, Linda Parker (William) of Alantic City, New Jersey; brothers-in-law, Albert M. Pellegrino of Albany, David Pellegrino (Julia) of Bethel, VT, Karl Pellegrino of Doylestown, PA, Stephen Pellegrino of Ballston Spa; and brother-in-law, Jon Thompson of Gloversville; several nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Johnstown High School, SUNY Morrisville and SUNY at Oswego, Robert served in the United States Air Force for four years, stationed in Alaska.
He was employed with the NYS Dept. of Labor for 32 years as an interstate programs job coordinator before retiring in 2003.
Robert was loyal, faithful and generous to family, co-worker, and friends and was well liked by all who knew him and constant smile.
