Musician. A bass player, he was one of the founding members of the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, but he will best be remembered for his work in the band .38 Special. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he moved to Jacksonville, Florida, when he was 10; it was in high school in 1964 where he met Ronnie Van Zant, Gary Rossington, Allen Collins and Bob Burns, and joined their band which became Lynyrd Skynyrd (pronounced 'Leh-nerd Skin-nerd'). However, Junstrom left the band in 1971, two years before their first album was released. A few years later, he joined .38 Special, a rock band started by former bandmate Ronnie Van Zant's younger brother, Donnie Van Zant. The band went on to huge commercial success in the 1980s when seven albums in a row went gold or platinum. Among the band's hits were: "Second Chance," "Hold On Loosely," "Rockin' Into the Night" and "Caught Up in You." The band made 12 studio albums and 4 live albums together. Junstrom played on all of them until 2014, when a hand injury caused him to retire.
