It is with great sadness we advise of the passing of Alice Mary Geddes (nee Downer). Alice descends from the Downer / Bailey and Mack / Stl'al'tenaat Families. Alice was born in North Vancouver on February 10, 1913 and died peacefully on December 8, 2017 in Langley Care Facility. She was 104 years young. Alice grew up on Squamish Territories on reserves in False Creek, Kitsilano, as well as Squamish Valley's Blind Chanel. She attended St. Paul's Indian Residential School and following her schooling she went north up island to the Campbell River area to work in a fish cannery. She married her loving husband in Leister Alexander Ritchie Geddes in the early 40's and remained with him 52 years until he passed away. Alice is survived by her children Monica Elizabeth Louise Wright, Henry Gerald 'Jerry' Dimsdale and Sharon Ruby Geddes; grandchildren Leister Douglas Geddes, Jeffrey Gordon Geddes, Darren Alexander Geddes, Charlene Annette Wright, Donna Lynn Wright, Marilyn Angela Wright, Jamie Gerald Dimsdale, Roddie Gordon Dimsdale; great-grandchildren Alexa Jade Geddes, Ryley Douglas Geddes, Nicole Jessica Geddes, Scott Charles Taylor Ogilvie, Laura Elizabeth Ogilvie, Heather Alice Ogilvie, James Alexander Dimsdale, Ryan Victor Dimsdale, Kyle Douglas Dimsdale, Colton Frederick Dimsdale, Emma Nicole Dimsdale; great-great-grandchild Saoirse Alexandra Dimsdale. Alice can best be remembered for her quiet manner but also her excitement in joy and laughter. She is known to be helpful to family, neighbours and friends. Alice was known for her love to celebrate especially birthdays. Just before her passing she asked her daughter-in-law "where is my birthday going to be this year?" She was assured family would be invited to her nursing home to celebrate. Reflecting on her 100th year birthday celebration hosted by our Elder's Program she flatly stated "I want to go back to Squamish". Family decided the fitting and appropriate thing to do was to have Alice's "Celebration of Life" Service on February 10, 2018 which would have been her 105th birthday. We celebrated our dear relative's life at Chief Joe Mathias Centre, 100 Capilano Road, North Vancouver, BC at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018. Lunch was served.
