Elizabeth was born in Independence County, Arkansas. Her father was Allen B. Jones (1825-1856). He was born in Illinois and died in Jackson County, Arkansas. Her mother was Atlantic Brown (1825-1853 to 1856). Elizabeth had a brother named William B. Jones born in 1853. Both her mother and father died when both children were young. Atlantic's brother, Richard Jasper Brown, was given custody of both children; however, another Brown family in the neighboring county took Richard to court in order to get guardianship of Elizabeth. Ebenezer's son, Marcus J. Brown, was ordered by the court to become guardian of Elizabeth. I do not know how or why Elizabeth wound up in Tennessee or with whom she traveled.
