He was born November 18, 1910, in Kanaopolis, and lived in the Denison and Mayetta area most of his life. He was a farmer and stockman, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a member of Denison Union Church, Mayetta Lodge No. 393, AF&AM, and Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 1367, Holton.
He married Esther Glassel Newman on November 17, 1963, in Holton. She survives.
Other survivors include his mother, Mrs. Emma Robson, Mayetta; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Mary Lou Wendt, Orlando, Florida, and Mrs. Barbara Knaak, Hazelton; two stepsons, Donald Newman and Harold Newman, both of Holton; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Oldweiler, Hoyt; a brother, Robert Robson, 3615 Garfield; 14 stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday at Mercer Funeral Home, Holton, followed by masonic services and flag services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Denison Cemetery, Denison.
