Mr. Carroll Thomas "Shorty" Bennett, Sr., 84, died early Saturday (December 23, 2006) at Satilla Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
He was a native of Clinch County but had resided most of his life in Waycross. He was married to the late Minnie Lee Browning Bennett and was the son of the late Troy Bennett and Fannie Lee Chancey. He was preceded in death by a son, Carroll (PeeWee) Bennett, Jr.
He was retired from Rubin Brothers Footwear. He formerly attended Kettle Creek Southern Congregational Methodist Church.
The survivors include three sons, Bobby Bennett (wife Lydia), Donnie Bennett, Sr. (wife Bonnie) both of Blackshear, and James Taylor of Waycross; a daughter, Johnnie Jean Young of Waycross; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Bennett of Nashville, GA; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; two sisters, Cleo Thomas of Waycross, Clenny Jordan of Argyle; and a special friend, James Taylor of Waycross.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday (December 27, 2006) at Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Kettle Creek Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Tuesday night from 6 until 8.
