Nadine Zella League Don Carlos was born on May 19, 1896 in Joplin, Missouri to parents Francis N. "Frank" League and Martha Frances Childress League. She was the couple's youngest daughter. In 1903, Nadine moved with her mother and sisters to Belle Fourche. She met and married Frank Stearns on August 27, 1915 in Deadwood, Lawrence, South Dakota. The couple had one daughter, Ruthe Aleen Stearns Enloe (1919). Nadine and Frank divorced following his return from World War I. She later married John Morgan Don Carlos on December 24, 1921 in Rapid City, South Dakota. Born of the marriage were six children: Stella Lorraine Don Carlos (1923), Carter Morgan Don Carlos (1924), Alta Francis Don Carlos (1929), William Don Carlos (1932), and Celesta Navon Don Carlos (1933).
At the time of her death, Nadine was preceded in death by her parents, Martha Frances Childress League Faulkner and Francis League, and one son: William Don Carlos. She was survived by her husband, John Morgan Don Carlos, her son, Morgan, and her four daughters: Ruth Enloe, Stella Ketterling, Alta Guertner, and Celesta Graham, as well as her beloved niece, Helen Frosheiser.
