Went to Granville Co., North Carolina, USA, with his brothers John and George engaged in a business partnership with Thomas Mutter as lawyers.
Bought a tract of land 1/4 mile SE of Grassy Creek Baptist church. He named this place Brownsville, it was located West of Bullock, North of Oxford NC.
He Married Martha Morton Daniel 22nd May, 1804 in Charlotte, Virginia.
They had the following children,
Isabella Alston Brown b. 29 Oct 1807, Brownsville, NC, married to Abraham Watkins Venable.
James Thomas Brown b. circ. 1805, Brownsville, NC
Elizabeth Morton Brown b. circ. 1821, Brownsville, NC.
John George Brown b. circ. 1817, Brownsville, NC, married to Rebecca Monteith Garden

Circa 1830, he sold his assetts and home to his son in law, Abraham Venables. In 1838 he returned to Scotland with his wife and three youngest children to his ancestral home at Auchlochan in Lesmahagow.
