He was discharged at the Presidio of San Francisco, California, on March 31, 1866.
At age 13, he was enumerated July 24, 1850, at East Troy, Walworth County, Wisconsin, with David Van Zandt 57, Nancy Van Zandt 55, John Van Zandt 31, William Van Zandt 24, Thomas Van Zandt 21, Elizabeth Van Zandt 19, Sarah Van Zandt 17, Rachel Van Zandt 16, and Oliver Van Zandt 13.
At age 23, he was enumerated July 18, 1860, at East Troy, Walworth County, Wisconsin, with David Van Zandt 67, Nancy Van Zandt 66, John Van Zandt 42, Thomas Van Zandt 33, Oliver Van Zandt 20, and Sarah Van Zandt 27.
At age 43, he was enumerated during June 1880, at Forest, Sierra County, California, with Louisa Van Zandt 26, Alfonso Van Zandt 2, and David H. Van Zandt 11 months.
At age 63, he was enumerated during June 1900, at Forest, Sierra County, California, with Mary L. Van Zandt 46, Charles Van Zandt 17, Hope Van Zandt 14, Amos Van Zandt 8, and Ruth L. Van Zandt 3. The enumeration shows that Amos and Mary had been married for 23 years and that Mary was the mother of 7 children, 6 of whom were then living.
At age 73, he was enumerated April 28, 1910, at Forest, Sierra County, California, with Mary L. Van Zandt 55, Charles F. Van Zandt 27, Amos Van Zandt 18, and Ruth L. Van Zandt 13. The enumeration shows that Amos and Mary had been married for 32 years and that Mary was the mother of 7 children, 6 of whom were then living.
