Melvin went on to earn numerous other honors while serving his country. One of those achievements was when he was awarded The Legion of Merit badge on June 29th 1995, by the president of the United States for exceptional meritorious service from March 8, 1993 to July 31, 1995 while serving as Combat Developments Staff officer, Battle Lab Integration, Technology and Concepts Directorate, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Combat Developments Headquarters, United States Army Training, and Doctrine Command at Fort Monroe in Hampton, VA. Despite all of his accomplishments, Melvin was still a humble man, who loved most of all being a provider and protector for his family. He was a gentle man who enjoyed the simple things in life like walking his beloved pet, Buddy, watching comedy and sports, doing crossword puzzles and spending time with his loved ones. He was deeply loved. We are truly grateful for all he did for us, and his love and his light will be forever missed.
