Civil War Union Army Officer. Served during the Civil War as Colonel and commander of the 127th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry.

The son of William & Elimina Elizabeth (Boas) Jennings, in 1860 he was an iron moulder and manufacturer living with his family in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. He married Emma Jane Van Horn December 17, 1861, and fathered Frederick Boas (b. 1862, d. 1869), Mary (b. @1865), William (b. 08/18/68), Fanny (b. @1870 - married George Ross), and Harry (b. @1872).

A Civil War veteran, he served three terms of service:
1. Enlisted at the stated age of twenty-three and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg May 2, 1861, as 1st lieutenant of Co. F, 25th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company either on June 26 or August 1, 1861 (both reported).
2. Enlisted at the stated age of twenty-four in Harrisburg August 1, 1862, mustered into federal service there August 16 as captain of Co. D, 127th Pennsylvania Infantry, but promoted to colonel effective August 16, 1862, at Washington DC. Slightly wounded at the battle of Fredericksburg on December 13, 1862, he then served as adjutant and drill instructor at Camp Curtin, Harrisburg, and honorably discharged with his company May 29, 1863.
2. Enlisted sometime in late June 1863 during the Gettysburg crisis at a location not stated (but likely Harrisburg), mustered into state service at Harrisburg June 22 as colonel of the 26th Pennsylvania Militia, and honorably discharged with the regiment July 30, 1863.

After the war, he became a prominent local figure, serving as county sheriff and in a variety of business roles. His obituaries in the Harrisburg newspapers are extensive.
