Jerome Gray, the aged father of Mrs. Ida Norman, living five miles southeast of this city, died at the Norman home last Thursday evening June 14th, at 8:30 o'clock. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon, conducted by F. M. Sturdevant, pastor of the Baptist church, and that evening the body was taken to Iowa, where it will be laid to rest in the cemetery at Lost Nation, Clinton County, besides his wife, who died in January, 1892.
Jerome Gray was born at Ashfield, Massachussets, September 28, 1825. During his early life his parents moved to and lived in Michigan, Ohio and Illinois. In the last named state he was married to Jane Hill, at Rockford, in 1854, and in 1872 moved to Carroll County, Iowa. Seven children were born to them: Ralph who died at the age of six; Mrs. Lydia Thorpe, Mrs. Charles Hewitt, Mrs. Anna Martin, Mrs. Ida Norman, Thomas E. Gray and Charles Gray.
Shortly after the death of his wife Mr. Gray came to Chadron and has since that time made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Ida Norman, who with her husband and Alaska Norman have tenderly cared for him through his declining years till he passed away as stated above, aged 91 years, 8 months, and 16 days.
