Jack Wayne Alvord Was born February 13, 1921 in Tacoma, Washington, and passed away on December 21, 2007 in Auburn, Washington. He graduated from Stadium High School in 1940, and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy he fought in World War II and the Korean War. Jack retired as a Tugboat Captain from the Navy after 20 years of service, and then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years. In his retirement, he enjoyed being with his family, watching the Mariners, crossword puzzles, and telling jokes. He was married to Nelly A. Hollstorm for 61 years and a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Puyallup, Washington. He was also a member of the Navy Fleet Reserve. He is survived by his wife Nelly and their four sons and wives: Jack and Sue of Portland, Oregon, Rick and Jaime of Puyallup, Washington, Tom and Denise of Puyallup, Washington, and Tim and Lisa of Carbonado, Washington; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. He will be laid to rest on January 7, 2008 at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington with military honors. A memorial service will follow at Peace Lutheran Church in Puyallup, Washington at 1:15 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Peace Lutheran Church.
