Gerda Maria Larsdotter Anderson was born October 1, 1877 at Lännäs parish, Örebro County, Sweden. The family emigrated from Sweden to Alexandria, Minnesota, USA in the spring of 1881. The father Lars Johan Andersson died in November of 1881. His burial place is in Alexandria, but unknown. Gerda's mother Clara Maria Larsdotter Anderson remained in Alexandria, Minnesota and brought up her three children there. The children were Gerda Maria, Johanna Christina "Hannah" Anderson and Herman Stephanus Anderson. The surname Anderson was used in Minnesota.
As an adult, Gerda Maria spent a few years working in Minneapolis, returning to Alexandria where she clerked in stores. She also was a member of the Swedish Baptist Church in Alexandria, playing in musical groups, teaching in Sunday school (records are still intact).
Gerda married Albin Erickson April 25, 1904, moving to Midale, Saskatchewan to her husband's homestead following the wedding. She became a member of the Baptist Church there. They had two sons, and an adopted daughter.
Children:
Clarence Edmond, born November 6, 1905 and lived to old age. He married Margaret Elizabeth England in 1935. they have 5 sons and 2 daughters.
Eugene, born January 12, 1907 and died February 19, 1907.
Dorothy Emalyn (adopted) born July 13, 1918. Dorothy married John Bromstad and had 3 children.
Gerda passed away September 23, 1968.
Albin Erickson, Gerda's husband, was also born in Sweden, and lived in Alexandria, Minnesota USA. He homesteaded in Middle in 1903.
By that time the available land in Douglas County, Minnesota was claimed, and homesteading opened up in Canada. Many sons of immigrants or later immigrants then moved to Canada from the Alexandria area.
