Edward was born in Northern Iowa, the son of Oswald & Blanche Evenson (Wescott) He enlisted in the Navy, on Oct.8 1940 in San Diego - service #3214864- Ed left the U.S in Dec 1941 and returned Sept. 1943, left again Dec 1945 and returned Oct. 1946. Was in Pearl Harbor by Mar. 1941. Muster Rolls show he's aboard the Lexington 1940 as Sea2c=Seaman 2nd class, Saratoga 1942-1943, AMM3c= Aviation Machinists Mate 3rd Class. He spent time at NAS Miami, Jacksonville, and St. Louis. NTTC- Norman Okla. Wikipedia says the Lexington was at sea on Dec. 7 and returned to Pearl Harbor a week later and was sunk in 1942. It's hard to pinpoint what kind of action he would've been involved with. When he was on one of his return trips to the US he married Katherine. They would live in Iowa and have three boys, then move to Arizona where they would live until he passed. This memorial was created because I felt that since there was just a notice in the paper that he passed and no service was planned, he needed a memorial so he could be remembered. He was my granduncle and this information was what I could gather from Ancestry.
