Major League Baseball Player. He played the catcher position for Major League Baseball's Detriot Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies from 1974 to 1985. After playing baseball in high school, he was drafted by the Washington Senators in the 42nd round of the 1967 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft. He played five years in the Senators' farm system and then, after a trade, one year in the St. Louis Cardinals' farm system. In 1974, he was traded to Detroit Tigers and went on to play for the team for the next nine and half years. In March of 1984, he was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies and went on to play for them for the next one and half years until being released by the Phillies in August of 1985. He tried to make a comeback in 1986, but to no avail. He retired as an active player and went into managing on the minor league level in October of 1986. His Major League statistics included a .262 batting average with 86 home runs and 310 RBIs in 795 career games. He continued as a minor league level manager until 1997. He was inducted into the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame in 1993.
