Parents of Chesaning Priest Celebrate Golden Anniversary.
MR. AND MRS. RUDOLPH STUDER.
CHESANING, Mich., Aug. 20.---(Special)---Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Studer of Chesaning are celebrating their golden anniversary Sunday, with their son, Rev. Fr. Alphonse Studer, of Chesaning, in charge of services, high mass will be sung and the sacredotal blessing given. Fr. Studer is one of the pioneer priests of the locality, having charge of parishes at Bath, Chesaning and Maple Grove.
Mr. and Mrs. Studer have lived in Chesaning with their son, for 12 years, and for 12 years before that lived in Maple Grove. They were born in Oberbuchsritten, Canton of Salothurn, Switzerland. Mr. Studer 76 and Mrs. Studer 70 years age. Both are in good health. They were married in St. Mary's church, Massilon, O., by Rev. Fr. Clair, August 21, 1871. Mr. Studer was for 30 years a teacher in parochal schools in Navarre, Massilon and Sherman, O., and Maple Grove.
Twelve children of Mr. and Mrs. Studer are living, Rev. Fr. Alphonse Studer, Mrs. Paul Tithof, John Studer, Charles Studer, Otto Studer, Mrs. Monica Tithof, Mrs. Anna Beckman, Rudolph Studer and Miss Rena Studer, Chesaning; Sister M. Isador of the Dominican order, Grand Rapids; Gustav and Lucian Studer, Flint.
After the services in the church Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, there will be a dinner at the farm home of Mrs. Paul Tithof, where all the children and grandchildren will gather. Rev. Fr. Ruessman of Maple Grove and the school sisters of St. Charles and the choir will be present.
Rev. Fr. Studer is one of the best known priests in this locality. Ordained by the late Bishop Richter December 28, 1899, he has since been in charge of parishes in Chesaning, St. Charles, Oakley and Albee.

Rudolph Studer, Father of Local Priest, Is Victim of Paralysis
Chesaning, June 11 ---- Friends, neighbors and former pupils, numbering several hundred persons, were present for the last rites held Saturday morning here for Rudolph Studer, 83, father of Rev. Fr. Studer, of Our Lady of Perpetual Help church, who passed away late Wednesday evening of paralysis. Mr. Studer suffered his first stroke while singing the 6 o’clock Angelus the evening of June 2, in his church. He was well known throughout the state.
Born in Switzerland.
Mr. Studer was born on March 28, 1845 at Oberbuchsitten, Canton, Solothurn, Switzerland. At the age of 23, he came to America and on August 21, 1871, he was united in marriage to Miss Alexandra Buttiker, at his home town in Switzerland. To this couple were born 16 children, 12 of whom survive. Mrs. Studer died in 1924.
For 30 years Mr. Studer taught in Catholic parochial schools in Massillon, Bethlehem and Sherman, Ohio, and for 15 years at St. Michael’s school at Maple Grove.
Tuesday morning he suffered his second attack, which proved fatal. He had always ????? good health.
The children who survive him are; Rev. Fr. A. Studer, Mrs. Mary Tithof, Charles Studer and John Studer of Chesaning, Otto Studer of Detroit, Sister M. Isadore of Merrill; Mrs. Monica Tithof of Bay City, Lucien and Gustav Studer of Flint; Rudolph Studer, of Birch Run; Mrs. Anna Beckman, Chesaning, and Miss Rena Studer, at home, also 41 grand-children, three great-grandchildren and one brother Quirin Studer, of Norwalk, O.
Rev. Fr. A. Studer conducted the requiem High Mass, assisted by Rev Fr. Victor Studer, of Cleveland, a nephew of the deceased.
Twenty-eight priests of the Grand Rapids and Detroit dioceses and 14 Dominican sisters were in attendance, Rev. Fr. Anthony Schumacher of Manistee gave the sermon briefly telling of the great work accomplished by the deceased and of the preparation persons should make for their death. The pall-bearers were the six sons.
Interment was made in the family plot in Mount Calvary cemetery at Chesaning.
