Carmie was the second born to Alvin and Ella (Hansen) Nelson in Elmdale Township North Dakota. His brothers were Clifford, Curtis, Clarence, Calvin, and Carlton Nelson. He had one sister Colette.
He married Helen Anderson on June 7th, 1954 at Elmdale Lutheran Church in Niobe. From this union three children were born

Lowell Nelson (February 29th, 1956)
Mark Nelson (September 8th, 1958)
Carmie farmed in Elmdale Township for several years, until his death in 2022 from injuries received in a car accident near Berthold.

Carmie Nelson----89, Kenmare, ND, died Friday, November 18, 2022 in a Minot hospital from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Carmie Elroy Nelson was born on March 10, 1933, a son of Alvin and Ella (Hansen) Nelson on the Nelson family farm in Elmdale Township ND. He was raised on the family farm and attended country schools.
On June 7, 1954, Carmie was united in marriage to Helen Anderson at Elmdale Lutheran Church in Niobe, ND. They made their home in Bowbells, ND area where they raised their sons and Carmie worked various jobs, including for Art Ekstrom as a laborer, in the meat locker at Farmers Union, did custom hay baling and custom grain drying, and worked as a carpenter, constructing and remodeling homes throughout the Bowbells and Kenmare area.
The family purchased a farm west of Kenmare, ND, where they built a new home in 1976 and Carmie dedicated the rest of his life to farming. He thoroughly enjoyed working with the machinery, and was even able to drive combine this past harvest at 89 years of age. He enjoyed time spent in his shop inventing items and working with them until they worked flawlessly. He was an active member of Faith Baptist Church, Kenmare.
Carmie enjoyed spending time with his family, especially attending the events of his grandchildren and now getting to spend time with his great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend and will be missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by
Wife of 68 years, Helen; sons Lowell Nelson; Mark (Michele) Nelson;
five grandchildren: Ryan Nelson, Crystal (Travis) Jochim, Ashley (Jason) Huber, Clay (Macie) Nelson, Kylee Nelson; five great-grandchildren: Macy and Morgan Jochim, Eden, Ember and Jayes Huber; siblings: Curtis Nelson and a sister Collette Maxwell; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Carmie was preceded in death by his parents, son Gary, brothers Clifford, Calvin, Clarence, and Carlton; a grandson-in-law Lee Helmers, a great-grandson Jaeger Huber, nephew Kent Medalen and several aunts, uncles and cousins,
Visitation: Friday, November 25, one hour prior to the service at the church.
