On April 4, 1926, Robert Lee Miller was born to Will and Gertrude Miller, in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was the seventh child of a family of eleven children. He accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Zion #2 M.B. Church; where he served faithfully,as a deacon, secretary and choir member for many years. He was a devoted member of the Mt. Nebo and Paragon Masonic lodges. He attended the public schools of Vicksburg. When he turned 18, in 1945, he was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve his country, though he had not yet received his high school diploma. Returning from a tour of duty in Europe, he went back to Bowman High School and received his diploma in 1948. In the military, he was assigned to the medical corps and he had dreamed of being a medical professional after the military; but the Lord had another plan for him to save lives and souls by bringing hundreds of people to Christ. Having won a state-wide carpentry competition sponsored by Jackson State College, while at Bowman, he decided to enroll at Southern Christian Institute in Edwards, MS to continue his education and further his skills in industrial arts. He later attended the Mississippi Baptist Seminary and Bible College Jackson, Mississippi.

On September 26, 1950, he was united in holy matrimony to Lillian Lee Derby, his high school sweetheart. They were wed for twenty-eight blissful and fruitful years until the untimely and sudden death of his beloved "Lil". To their union, nine children were born.

In his early life, he worked as a store clerk and deliveryman for Abraham's Department store in downtown Vicksburg. During that time, many people knew and referred to him as simply, Bob. He was also an entrepreneur, as he and Lillian owned and managed several rental properties around the city. Mr. Miller later became employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier until his retirement in 1992.

In 1968, he received the call to preach the word of God, and he was soon ordained as a minister of the Missionary Baptist church. Rev. Miller was a tireless and faithful servant of the Lord, pastoring churches in Warren and Sharkey counties. He also served faithfully as the pastoral Moderator of the Warren County Baptist Association, the Sharkey County Baptist Association and in leadership with the Vicksburg Baptist Ministerial Alliance. During his decades of service, he was shepherd to the following flocks: Providence M.B. Church, Holly Grove M.B. Church, China Grove M.B. Church, New Mt. Zion M. B. Church, Pleasant Valley M.B. Church of Nitta Yuma, MS and Locust Grove, M.B. Church. He gained many friends in his Christian journey and was sought after to spread the word on occasions to numerous to list, whether for a revival service, church or pastor's anniversary, wedding ceremony, another minister's ordination ceremony or the like.

Rev. Miller was active in the Civil Rights Movement in the then-segregated south, risking his life and the lives of his young family by posting flyers throughout Vicksburg about "mass meetings" at various churches, to plan strategies for improvement of the lives of everyone in the community. He later served on the Board of Directors of the local Red Cross Chapter and was a steadfast member of the 9th Circuit Court District - Drug Court, devoted to giving those who had lost their way a second chance through treatment, education and employment. As God so loved, he so loved.

After many decades of being a widower, Rev. Miller met and married Elease Fisher of Vicksburg. She was a dutiful companion for many years as he approached the sunset of his life.

Rev. Miller departed this life on February 7, 2023 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Gertrude; his six brothers, Fred, Will III, Harry, Arthur, Richard and Charlie; two sisters, Mary and Daisy; his first wife, Lillian, and four of his sons, Glenn, Robert, Jr., Brian and Fred.
