Barry was a dedicated and experienced Dallas police officer for 35 years. He served his community with honor and bravery, always putting the safety of others before his own. Barry's commitment to his job was unwavering, and he worked tirelessly to keep his city safe. Over the course of his career, Barry faced many challenges and dangers, but he never wavered in his determination to serve and protect. He will always be remembered as a true hero for his service to the Dallas police department.
He was always there for Andrea, Woody, Mike, Missy, Randy Smith, Terry McKnight, Tom Wafer, and Ronnie Hale. His loyalty knew no bounds, and he was a true friend to each and every one of them. Whether they needed a shoulder to cry on or just someone to talk to, he was always willing to lend an ear.
Barry is survived by his children, Barry W. and wife, Sara, Travis Whitfield and wife, Ivy; grandchildren, Nova, Travis and Victoria; sister in law: Nita Whitfield; his brother in law whom he considered a brother, Don Hafer and wife, Myra; and father-in-law, Don Hafer, Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jim Whitfield.
A funeral service was held on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at 1:00pm, in Reflections at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 2500 State Highway 66 East, Rockwall, Texas. A gathering of friends and family will be held prior to the service from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Judes.
