Merlin Lawrence Messenger, 86, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was the husband of Cassandra B. (Clark) Messenger. Born in Granby, October 20, 1928, he was a son of the late Miles and Josephine (Wright) Messenger and had lived in this area all of his life.
Prior to his retirement, he had been an Oil Burner Technician. Merlin was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of World War II, enlisting in 1945, served in Japan and China and attained the rank of Sgt.
He was a loving brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved nature, reading, writing, hunting, fishing and gardening. Merlin suffered from Parkinsons Disease and died of pneumonia.
In addition to his loving and faithful wife of 57 years, he is survived by two sons, Scott Messenger and his wife Sue, Jeffrey Messenger; one brother, Frederick Messenger; two sisters, Lois - Jean Messenger and Naomi Messenger; three grandchildren, Marisa Messenger, Jennifer Gannon and her husband Joel and Shannon Whitney and her husband David and one great grandson, Micah Gannon. He was predeceased by a son, Johnathan Messenger,and two brothers, Beverly Messenger and Miles Messenger, Jr. A memorial service was held on Sunday, January 25, 2015, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Pine Meadow at 3:00 PM.
