Enlisted, June 6, 1917, in Company K, 47th Infantry Regiment, NYNG, Brooklyn, NY. He was transfer, November 7, 1918, to Company C, 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division, at Camp Wadsworth, SC. After training at Camp Wadsworth the 105th MG. Battalion shipped out for Europe aboard the USS Calomares, May 17, 1918, from Newport News, VA. The battalion docked, May 30, 1918, at St. Nazaire, France.

He saw combat in both Belgium & France. He returned to the States with the 105th MG Battalion, aboard the USS Leviathan,
from Brest, France, February 26, 1919. The battalion docked at Hoboken, NY, March 6, 1919. He marched in the great " Welcome Home Parade " for the 27th Division, March 25, 1918, up 5th Avenue, in New York City. He was discharged from the, April 1, 1919, at Camp Upton, NY.
