Actor. He was best known to both television and film viewers for the numerous character roles he portrayed during a career that spanned from 1970s to the early 21st Century. His early life was spent in a life of crime before he served 8 1/2 years in both New York state prisons Sing Sing and Attica. After being released at the age of 32 years old, he started taking acting classes and received his first acting role in the 1973 film "Serpico." He went on to appear in such films as "Fun with Dick and Jane," "The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh," "The Jerk," "Repo Man," "Odd Jobs," "Midnight Run," "Carlito's Way," and "Recoil." In 1975, he made his television debut in an episode of "The Bob Newhart Show." His later television credits would include such series and mini-series as "The Rookies," "Baretta," "Starsky and Hutch," "Serpico," "Kojak," "Hart to Hart," "The Gangster Chronicles," "Cagney & Lacey," "Hunter," "Amen," and "Capital News."
