Evelyn Sondra Updike Alden was born on 21 December, 1935 in Humboldt, Kansas, the only child of Evelyn Emily Hoover Updike and Ralph Emerson Updike.
She was cremated and the ashes have not been interred yet. She will have a stone at Mount Hope with her grandparents or parents.
A graduate of the University of Kansas, Sondra had a lifelong interest in history and education. She had her parents, grandparents, and other family members go through the family photos and identify them while they were together, allowing her daughter Evelyn to upload them to this website in the modern age. She also started the family genealogy research, culminating in 30 some notebooks of information. Any information her daughter, Evelyn, has provided is based on the foundation laid by Sondra. She was director of the Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum from 1978-1988 (and was accredited by the American Association of Museums), then was director of the Allen County Historical Society. Her wedding dress and various wedding items are in the Johnson County Historical Society. After retirement, she began a bookstore in the Society for Creative Anachronism called Tomes and Tunes and traveled with it around the midwest.
Sondra was preceded in death by her parents as well as her daughter, Rebecca Lee Alden Wenner.
