Barbara Jean Riley Hilton, 79, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, at Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
Originally from Hudson, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. Over the years, she made her home in several places dear to her heart, including Alton, New Hampshire, and Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Barbara was the devoted wife of Robert Hilton and the beloved daughter of Andrew S. Riley and Edna T. Satas Riley. Barbara was a loving mother to four children: Lisa McKay, Andrew Hodgdon, Christina Hilton, and Robert Hilton. She had three stepdaughters: Roberta Hilton Jasiak, Elizabeth Adkinson, and Barbara Santasiero. Her legacy continues through her nine grandchildren: Rylee McKay, Aidan McKay, Angelica Wallis, Andrew Hodgdon, Sarah Hodgdon, Julie Hodgdon, Megan Clevenger, Justin Clevenger, and Robert Hilton. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Lenny McKay, Layla McKay, and Nova Hodgdon.
Barbara was a woman of many talents and boundless creativity. She was known for her dedication to breeding Siberian Huskies for sled dog racing, a passion that reflected both her strength and her deep love for animals. A gifted seamstress, she crafted beautiful dolls with care and artistry, bringing smiles to those around her. Her talent extended to the canvas, where her paintings captured the beauty and spirit of the world she so deeply appreciated.
An avid gardener, Barbara cultivated more than 300 varieties of flowers in her lifetime, each one a testament to her patience, love of nature, and nurturing spirit. Her home bloomed with color and life, much like the joy she spread to others. She also found great joy in music, singing, dancing, and filling her home with melody and laughter.
Barbara loved to read, and her curiosity and compassion were ever-present. She had a unique and beautiful gift: she always saw the good in everyone. Her kindness was quiet but powerful, and her warmth left a lasting impression on all who knew her. And anyone who was lucky enough to taste her cooking knew she had a true gift in the kitchen.
Barbara will be remembered not only for her many talents but for her love, her humor, and her unwavering spirit. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, artist, and friend—and above all, she was the heart of her family.
