Adam Smyth, a 50-year-old father of four, was walking on Bondi Beach with his wife Katrina when the attack happened.
Mr Smyth's family said he and his wife were "living their best lives together".
He was also passionate about sport and the "loves of his life" include Liverpool Football Club in the English Premier League, the Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League and the Manly Sea Eagles in the National Rugby League.
"We are all trying to come to terms with the senseless shooting, of which Adam was a victim. No words can describe the pain of our loss," his family said in a statement.
"You'll never walk alone (YNWA)," the family added, a reference to Liverpool's anthem.
