OLGA PENA KUCHENOFF SAM
April 18, 1945 ~ Oct. 10, 2007

Anchorage Daily News October 14, 2007:

Anchorage resident and lifelong Alaskan Olga Pena Sam, 62, died Oct. 10, 2007, at Alaska Native Medical Center from complications of lung cancer. A visitation was at St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Cathedral with a funeral. The Rev. Peter Chris officiated. There was a potlatch at the church. A graveside service was at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery.

Olga was born April 18, 1945, in Perryville. She moved to Anchorage from Chignik Lagoon in 1992. Olga was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved playing puzzles, cards, Yahtzee and bingo. She loved taking banus (steambaths), knitting and crocheting (mostly socks and gloves), beading necklaces and bracelets for family and friends, dancing and listening to country music. She attended the Russian Orthodox Church her whole life and enjoyed her studies with the Jehovah's Witnesses. Her family wrote: "Words cannot say how much we love and miss her, and she always assured us that she had enough love to go around. She loved to be on the go, being outdoors, gathering food with family and friends. She loved to eat red salmon and various Alaskan berries. "She has nicknames for each grandchild. She always opened her door and heart to people from the villages and others that had nowhere else to go. She will be missed dearly by all that know her, for she had so much love to give."

Olga is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Ivan and Nina Sam, and Marseleno and Cheryl Sam; daughter, Delores Sam; daughter Jenny Sam and her companion, Kylie Yates; daughter Edna Sam and her companion, Ernie Berestoff; sisters, Julia Kuchenoff, Agnes Larson and Alvina White; grandchildren, Kristen Johnson, Alexsandra Smithmyer, Kyle Johnson, Chelsea Sam, Cloe Sam, Kristopher Sam, Mikeal Sam, Coogan Sam, Sasha Sam, Amanda Roehl, Michelle Roehl, Collin Roehl and Justin Sam; great-granddaughter, Hailey Dauti; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Natalia and William Kuchenoff Sr.; husband, Mike Sam; daughter, Annie Sam; brother, William Kuchenoff Jr.; and many other relatives. Arrangements were made with Evergreen memorial Chapel. Visit the online memorial at legacy.com
