He was born July 14, 1909 in Crowley, Louisiana, to the late George William and Barbara Anna Krass Schell. He was a member of West Lake Baptist Church. For many years he and his wife owned and operated a sucessful nursery and landscape business. Upon retirement, they chose Canton and later Lake Palestine as their home. He was a man of total integrity, loved to fish and loved his church.
He was preceded in death by is wife of 63 years, Virgie Schell, on January 22, 1999. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and nine siblings.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Robert William and Kathy Schell, Irving, George Weldon and June Schell, Tulsa, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers include Jim Onstott, Clifford Perkins, Charley Dale, Herb Richardson, Billy Blackstone and Gerald Potts. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Genesis Hospice Care of Athens.
