Patricia Ann Tracy Massa, age 72 years, passed away on 2-25-2016 at DCH Regional Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She was born on 8-16-1943 in Memphis, TN, and grew up in Munford, TN. She graduated from UT Knoxville with a B.S. and later an MSSW.


Preceded in death by her beloved sister, Barbara Ballard. She is survived by her beloved sons, Philip Tracy Massa, M.D. and William Stanton Massa III, J.D. and his wife, Sarah; along with seven dearly loved grandchildren, Erica, Ashley, Kathryn, Travis, and Caroline, Henry, and Joseph. Also surviving are brothers, Sidney Tracy and J.F. (Skipper) Sage. She leaves her aunt, Betty; and multiple cousins, nieces, and nephews, all residing in the Munford/Memphis area. Her closest friends, Ellen Netting and Sandi Bowen, were more than 40 years her truest allies. She most appreciated them for their loving support of her throughout her life.


She was active in her profession for over 35 years as a psychotherapist/counselor and was recognized for outstanding performance as Social Worker of the Year by the State of TN and Knox County as well as "Outstanding Clinician" at Child & Family Services. She held credentials as nationally certified by the Academy of NASW and Board certified as a Diplomate in Clinical Social Work. She led the movement for TN to license Social Workers and was most proud to be an LCSW.


A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National MS Society, 214 Overlook Circle, Suite 153, Brentwood, TN 37027 or to the Cancer Research Institute, 55 Broadway, Suite 1802, NY, NY 10006.
