Residing in Harwich, Massachusetts at the time of enlistment. Enlisted on December 26, 1863 as a Private in the 58th Massachusetts Infantry, Company A, at the age of 22. Wounded in right arm, amputated, on May 6, 1864 at Wilderness, Virginia. Died at Washington DC of wounds received.

Original tombstone was replaced in 2009.
