Murdered in Tijeras area, at his cabin on a homestead near San Lorenzo Springs. Former soldier. Buried by the G K Warren Post, G A R. Age about 55, had been in the Union army.

He was apparently ambushed as he gathered wood from his woodpile and shot in the head, then shot again at close range in the face, leaving powder burns showing proximity. Then his throat was cut.

Strong Mortuary in Charge. Wooten had been a brickmason on the Stong building.

Wooten had filed his claim on land considered part of the Canon de Carnuel holdings of Perfecto Armijo and Mariano S Otero. The land had been quitted by a man name Henry Carpenter. Legal proceedings were progressing concerning the land claim. Wooten had just barely taken possession of the claim when he was murdered.
