ATHENS -- Mary Bernadine Main, 86, of Friendship Village in Dublin, a former resident of Athens and a descendant of one of the first pioneer families of Athens County, died late Monday afternoon, Jan. 28, 2002, at Friendship Village.
Born Aug. 20, 1915, in Athens County, she was the daughter of the late Dr. John R. and Anna Bernadine Devlin Sprague. A 1933 graduate of Athens High School, she was a graduate of Ohio University with a degree in medical technology. Early in life, she was a substitute high school teacher. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Child Conservancy League, Athens Foundation, Athens Garden Club, Chi Omega sorority, Catholic Ladies of Columbia, Athens County Historical Society and the Equal Rights Commission.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Dr. Robert Main; daughters Linda (Pete) Clark of Albany and Theresa (Al) Walton of New Plymouth; sons Robert J. (Bette Ann) Main of Marion, N.C., Dr. Tom (Leslie) Main of Columbus, and Bill (Kathleen) Main of LaJolla, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and brothers Dr. Edward (Jean) Sprague of Athens, Dr. William (Norma) Sprague of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Robert Sprague of Charleston, S.C.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. John T. Sprague.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at St. Paul Catholic Church in Athens, with Msgr. Patrick Gaughan officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home in Athens on Thursday, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., where Catholic Ladies of Columbia will hold memorial rites at 7:15 and a vigil for the deceased will be held at 7:30.
In lieu of flowers, donations may me made to the endowment fund of Frierndship Village of Dublin, 6000 Riverside Drive, Dublin, Ohio 43017.
