Morris M. Baker, 51, of Idaho Falls, a former resident of the Rexburg area, died June 2, 2001, at his son's home in Idaho Falls following an extended illness.


He was born in Rexburg, Idaho, to Marion William and Melva Meyers Baker on May 7, 1950. He attended schools in Rexburg and St. Anthony, Idaho, and Rammstein Air Force Base in Germany. He worked summers on his uncle's farm to earn money for school.


When he was 19, he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a combat engineer and served in Vietnam from 1969-1970. After serving in the Army for eight years, he worked for Madison County as a truck driver. He also worked as a security guard in Las Vegas and then moved to Phoenix to drive long-haul trucks delivering produce. His final place of residence was Idaho Falls where he had previously worked as a long-haul truck driver.


He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he was ordained an Elder and attended church regularly. He enjoyed talking to family and friends, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping. He loved his children, brothers, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, parents, and cousins as well as his many friends.


Survivors include his children, Derek (Charlotte) Baker of Idaho Falls, Tamie (Scott) Howe of Rigby, Amanda Baker of St. Cloud, Minn., and Crystal Baker of Sanford, Fla.; step-children, Jody (Jim) Kays of Ashton, Jennifer (Gregrey) Simpson of St. Anthony, JaNee (Travis) Cox of Port Angeles, Washington, Justin (Danya) Liebert of St. Anthony, and William Liebert of Idaho Falls; mother and step-father, Melva and Norman L. Baker of Mesa, Arizona; brothers, Michael Baker of Omaha, Nebraska, Max (Patty) Baker of Phoenix, Doug (Amy) Baker of Lansing, Michigan, and Myron (Suzanne) Baker of Menan; three grandchildren; and 12 step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marion W. Baker.
