FUNERAL OF MRS. DE LA ROSA. Last Services Over One Who Was Beloved by Rich and Poor.
It is always sad to chronicle the funeral of one of our people, but particularly so when, as in the case of Mrs. lnnocencia de la Rosa, the deceased in a member of one of the oldest and most prominent families of the county. Her father, Jose M. Alviso, aided the padres in founding Mission San Jose and the mission at Santa Clara, and his remains rest in a crypt in St. Claires Church.
Mrs. De la Rosa has always lived in San Jose, where her husband, the late Tito L. de la Rosa, had extensive business interests. Her bright and genial disposition made her home one of happiness, where the virtues of a Christian mother and the words of a pious counselor were revered and obeyed by the loving children and grand-children who now mourn her loss.
Yesterday at 1 :30 o'clock the De la Rosa home, 259 North Sixth street, was crowded with friends, who came to pay their last respects and offer words of consolation to the grief-stricken family. The parlor and library were tilled with flowers, among them being several magnificent pieces and also many bouquets brought by persons whom the deceased had aided, whose sufferings she had alleviated and whose trouble she had made lighter by her kind words and abundant charity. The remains lay in a black broadcloth covered casket with silver mountings. Her face bore a benevolent, kind expression. and in her hands were clasped a small crucifix and a chaplet of beads.
The cortege left the house, the coffin being borne by H. A. Barker, Isaac Judge Weller. F. Pozzo, I. Bernal, M, Secenia, N. Sunol, V. Valenti, and proceeded to St. Patricks Church, where the service for the dead was read by Rev. Father D. Lane. The reverend gentleman also preached an eloquent funeral sermon. The funeral procession then left the church and proceeded to Oak Hill Cemetery, where Rev. Father Lane said the prayers for the dead.
Her children were all here to attend the burial, and they were Adrian de la Rosa, Mrs. A. W. J. Gibbs, Mrs. J. C. Corcoran, Mrs. Edward Pratt of San Francisco, Amador de la Rosa, and Misses Zoe, Clara, Mollie and Rosa de la Rosa; also her grandchildren—Leo de la Rosa, Tito Corcoran, Grace de la Rosa and Searle [Cyril] de la Rosa.
