Born Nov. 11, 1928, in Indianola, Iowa, she graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle in 1946. She married Ted Cowan on Sept. 3, 1948.
Mrs. Cowan retired in 1994 as an educational assistant at Echo Glen Juvenile Prison after working for many years with her husband at Maple Valley Realty and Village Properties. She also worked at Van de Kamp's Bakery and Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. She was a member of the Roadside Chapel. She enjoyed hummingbirds and chickadees, swing music, the family cabin near Mount Rainier, traveling and investigating her family history.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Sidney McBee, John McBee, Kenneth McBee and Hollis McBee; and sister Marita McBee. She is survived by her husband, Ted Cowan of Issaquah; daughters Valorie Zimmerman of Black Diamond and Kimberly Betts of Salome, Ariz.; brother Dennis McBee of Calgary, Alberta; sisters Kathleen Stapp of Phoenix, Betty Bouck of Drayton Valley, Alberta, JoAnne Flickinger of Anacortes and Leanell Glatt of Spokane; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1:45 p.m. today at Tahoma National Cemetery in Maple Valley followed by a memorial gathering at Four Corners Latter-day Saints Church in Maple Valley.
