Sharon Steel retiree was Mason, WWII Army vet
A funeral service will be held Wednesday for Ralph "Buck" Tulip Jr. of Whispering Oaks, 260 S. Buhl Farm Drive, Hermitage, formerly of 76 Emerson Ave., Wheatland. He passed away at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 83.
Mr. Tulip was born May 12, 1924, in Cambridge, Ohio, a son of the late Ralph Tulip Sr. and Agnes Bugher Tulip. He and his family moved to the Shenango Valley when he was a young boy and settled in Wheatland.
Buck retired in 1983 from the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, where he was employed as an electrician for 42 years.
He belonged to Wheatland-Farrell United Methodist Church and was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Kedron Lodge 389, West Middlesex, having been recently awarded the 50-year Masonic service emblem.
Buck loved the outdoors and owned and maintained a camp in Forest County, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
A decorated war veteran, he served with the Army in the South Pacific during World War II.
His wife, the former Carol Louise "Tod" Cole, whom he married May 12, 1951, passed away July 26, 1994.
Surviving are: two sons, Thomas R. Tulip and his wife Geri, Hermitage; and Terry A. Tulip and his wife Aronie, West Middlesex; three grandchildren, Georgeanne Rascon, Brittany Miner and Erica Puhl; a sister, Pearl Martin and her husband James, Sandy, Ore.; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, Buck was preceded in death by three brothers, Herb Tulip, Austin "Archie" Tulip, and James Tulip; and two sisters, Isabelle Costello Bowers and Doris Sargous.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Wheatland-Farrell United Methodist Church, 75 Mercer Ave., Wheatland 16161.
