Frances Rose Wilson was born on August 5, 1917, and educated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of hardworking, Italian immigrants from Reggio Calabria, Italy, Orazio Lagana and Santina Pritti Lagana.
During World War II she was a sergeant in the Women's Army Corps and served at Fort Knox, Ky., and at a hospital at Fort Sheridan, Ill.
She received the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, the WAC service Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal.
She met her future husband, Thomas Woodrow Wilson, Sr., a glider pilot in the Army Air Corps, while in the service. They were married in 1947 and lived on the family farm in Landover, Maryland, which became a Prince George's County park and then the location of FedEx field. Mr. Wilson died in 1998.
Mrs. Wilson was employed as a secretary at William Paca Elementary School in Landover until retiring at age 80.
She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and at the Naval Academy Museum. She also was a driver for patients through the Heritage Harbour Health Group.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. John Neumann Catholic Church, and she enjoyed gardening.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas Wilson Jr. of Lancaster, Virginia., and Joseph Wilson of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; six daughters, Francina Baldi of Frederick, Maryland, Victoria Stark of Windsor, Colorado., Kathryn Aquilla of Chestertown, Mary Hendley and Judith Wilson of Upper Marlboro and Georgianna Wilson of Dunkirk; one brother, Joseph Lagana of Philadelphia; 24 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was the grandmother of the late Sarah Wilson.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 14908 Main St., Upper Marlboro, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham. Arrangements are by Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
