Theodore's German name was Zigmund (sometimes Sigmund) Friedrich. He was one of 11 children of Lorenz (Lawrence) Deuber and Johanna Sarah (Georgianna)Dittmar.

Theodore emigrated to New York with his family from Germany, possibly Bavaria. Their departure point was Bremen, Germany.They arrived August 22, 1866, on the ship Bremen.

They appear in Baltimore, MD in 1867. Sometime in 1871 they relocated to Philadelphia where they remained.

His family spoke "High German" and were of the Lutheran faith.

Cause of death, as determined by a coroner's inquest, was emphysema. Occupation at the time of death was waiter.
